- The sport of bodyboarding started in 1971 in Hawaii.
- Stand-up surfing began in the early 20th century. Duke Kahanamoku, the father of surfing, is credited with the rebirth of surfing in Hawaii after it had been banned by the missionaries, who thought surfing to be immoral, pleasure-seeking acts and a waste of time.
- However Tom Morey reinvent modern popularisation of the sport and made possible and designed the first mass-produced body board coined the "Morey 'Boogie' Board". .
